Tonya Stafford: Human Trafficking Survivor

Tonya Stafford is a native of Dallas, Texas, with over 10 years of experience working with women, young girls and children. Her love for them keeps her focused on their safety. She has a degree in Early Childhood Education. Recently, Tonya was featured in a innovative training documentary called “Be The One” provided by The Attorney General of Texas, Ken Paxton. Recently , she spoke at Cyntoia Brown’s clemency hearing on May 23, 2018 at the Tennessee Prison for Women which resulted in Cyntoia receiving clemency from Governor Bill Haslam on January 7, 2019. Her work for Cyntoia garnered the attention of Nightline and Young Turks internet news program which featured the story. On January 20, 2019 Tonya was one of the featured Keynote speakers at Dallas Women’s March with over 10,000 in attendance Ms. Stafford has also been trained by The Texas Against Sexual Assault (TAASA) program. Tonya's desire for helping others comes from a traumatic life, a childhood of sexual molestation, physical abuse, rape and ultimately sold. In the fall 2014, Tonya founded It's Going To Be OK, Inc. (IGTBOK). It’s Going To Be Ok mission is to seek and create a just world where women, children, and all vulnerable adults are safe, respected, and valued. Her ultimate desire is to educate and eradicate human trafficking one survivor at a time. Tonya is dedicated to advocate as a voice for women and children as she has done so by testifying on the Texas State Senate Hearings on a House Bill 2290 (HB 2290) which recognizes January as Human Trafficking Prevention Month. Her testimony assisted in this bill being passed on September 1, 2015. She also serves as a voice for those silenced by death and the innocent victims who cannot otherwise speak for themselves. Tonya Stafford was presented with the State of Texas Resolution from the State Capitol on June 10, 2017 for her efforts to bring the first human trafficking walk to Dallas, Texas. Tonya's story of resilience and training on this underground world, are top notch. She has shared and trained with FBI, Law Enforcement, Homeland Security, undercover, SVU, SANE Nurses, school professionals, faith based community leaders, medical professionals, prosecutors and more. Her speaking engagements always include her amazing personal story that will inspire you to a call to action; she is serious and funny at the same time and has an award winning smile. Her speaking engagements not only leave you inspired but you will be greeted with a good old fashion hug and a reminder that your past does not determine your destiny. She also speaks on leadership and founding non-profits. In Tonya's private time, she enjoy being a Mother and Grandmother.
